THEMES
Thank you for using CarListings to build a beautiful listings and rental website. In this documentation, we will show you how to install and setup the basic demo for your website. This takes you only 5 minutes to have the website ready!
Installation
We have written a very detailed guide on how to download and install a WordPress theme, please follow the instruction in that article.
IMPORTANT:
In order to make the theme works properly, you need to install the Auto Listings, Meta Box and Jetpack plugin. Simply go to the Dashboard → Plugins → Add New. The plugin will appear in the list below, click Install Now button to install it.
After activating Jetpack, you need to connect to WordPress.com to use it (it requires you to create an account on wordpress.com – which is free). If you don’t want to create an account on wordpress.com, you can enable the Jetpack development mode.
Import Demo Content
Note:Â We do not recommend to import demo content if you have existing content in your WordPress installation.
- The first step is to download the Theme Demo Content.
- Log in to the WordPress Dashboard and go to Tools » Import in the left menu.
- Choose “WordPress” from the list.
- Install the Plugin “Install Importer” by clicking Install Now
- Click Activate Plugin & Run Importer
- Upload your demo content .xml file.
- On the next screen you will be asked to map the authors in this export file to users on the blog. You may choose to map to an existing user on the blog or to create a new user. Check “Download and import file attachments” to import the placeholder images.
- It will take a while, once completed you’ll see the message All done. Have fun!

Custom Logo
You can add a custom logo by going to Customize → Site Identity and uploading your own logo image.
We recommend the size of the logo is 300×67 (px).

The main navigation appears at the top of every pages of your website. On tablet and mobile devices, it will be hidden behind a toggle button. To set it up, simply create a new menu via Customize → Menus and assign it to the Primary location.
Top navigation appears next to the search form at the top. To set it up, simply create a new menu via Customize → Menus and assign it to the Top location.
Social Links Menu
The social links menu displays at the top right of your website. To add social links, create another menu and add links to your social network profiles. Then assign it to the Social Menu location.

Setting up your front page
When you first activate CarListings, your homepage will display posts in a traditional blog format. To set up your homepage, follow these steps:
- Create a page.
- Go to the Customizer’s Static Front Page panel and set Front page displays to A static page.
- Select the page you created in step one as the Front page, and, if you plan to have a blog as well, choose another page as the Posts page to display your blog posts.
Featured Slider
First, create some pages and tag them with the same tag. We often use the featured
tag, but you can use any tag you want. Don’t forget to add featured image. It’s used as the slide image.
Listing Search Box
First, create a page. In this page, you need to write some text and add the shortcode [auto_listings_search] below. The text and the title will be display in the position like the picture below:
Then go to Customize → Theme Options -> Homepage and select the page you created above:
Browse all the car by make
This section will display all your makes and the number of cars available for each make. Go to Customize → Theme Options -> Homepage and customize the title and the image in this section:
Call To Action section
This section can display the custom HTML content of your choice. It’s a good place to add some marketing text and a call-to-action button. To edit the content, go to Customize → Theme Options → Call To Action section.
Widgets
CarListings works nicely with all the available widgets. Simply go to Customize → Widgets → Sidebar and add the widgets you like.
Beyond the default widgets, we also create a custom CarListings: Contact Info widget that displays your working hour and your Email.
Footer
CarListings includes one optional widget area in the footer. To add widgets to the footer, go to Customize → Widgets → Footer 1 Footer 2 Footer 3. The widgets will be arranged in up to three columns automatically.
Customization
We recommend using a child theme to customize the theme.
In addition, you can customize the theme CSS by going to Customize → Additional CSS.
If you want to customize the fonts or colors, we have 2 powerful and easy-to-use plugin: Ultimate Fonts and Ultimate Colors that can help you do that.
If you have any question, please send us a support ticket!
